The Oskar Patzelt Foundation is dedicated to honouring the outstanding achievements of small and medium-sized enterprises nationwide and awards the annual business prize "Großer Preis des Mittelstandes" (Grand Prize of Medium-Sized Businesses 2021). It is awarded according to competition criteria such as overall development of the company, creation/securing of jobs and apprenticeships, modernisation and innovation, commitment to the region or service and customer proximity. Outstanding performance in all criteria is required. Wagner was convincing in all points during the nomination round. The success: a place on the jury's shortlist.
As the only business award in Germany, the "Großer Preis des Mittelstandes" does not only look at figures, innovations or jobs, but at the company as a whole and in its complex role in society. Although no one is allowed to apply themselves, the competition has been the most resonant business competition in Germany for years, with almost 5,000 companies nominated each year. For the 27th nationwide competition of the Oskar Patzelt Foundation for the "Großer Preis des Mittelstandes 2021", which in the second year of the Corona pandemic has the motto "Now more than ever", 4,674 small and medium-sized enterprises as well as business-friendly municipalities and SME-friendly banks were nominated. Only 667 nominees, including Wagner, reached the second stage of judging this year. Now more than one hundred jurors in thirteen regional juries are deliberating which companies on the jury list will be honoured this year. The final jury decision will be made on 18 September.
